Verse 1:

I was walkin’ home one night

And I heard someone cryin’ in the park.

I saw this sad old cricket

Who was sitting on a pebble in the dark.

I asked him what was wrong

He said, “Nobody stopped to hear him like before.”

The people all just all hurried by

And no one heard his music anymore.

Chorus

(And he went):

dee dit dee dee dee, da dee dee

dee dit dee dee dee, da dee dee

dee dit dee dee dee dit dee

(Yes, he went):

dee dit dee dee dee, da dee dee

dee dit dee dee dee, da dee dee

dee dit dee dee dee dit dee

Verse 2:

He asked me if I’d tell the world

To listen to him play for just a while.

He said he knew his music would

Make ev’ryone remember how to smile.

So when you’re walkin’ in the night

Stop a while and listen to the dark

And you might hear the lonely cricket

Singin’ to somebody in the park.

Chorus

(As he sings):

dee dit dee dee dee, da dee dee

dee dit dee dee dee, da dee dee

dee dit dee dee dee dit dee

(Yes, he sings):

dee dit dee dee dee, da dee dee

dee dit dee dee dee, da dee dee

dee dit dee dee dee dit dee

(fade out)
